“正能量”（positive energy）是最近出现频率较高的一个词，名为“随手传递正能量”（transmit positive energy readily/passing）的网络活动引来了千万网友的接力（relay）。输入“正能量”一词，立刻会出现成千上万个相关条目，如:“点燃正能量，运气挡不住！（There is no way to obstruct Fortune.）” 、“坚持以人为本的价值取向（value orientation）才能让改革释放正能量”、“北京百姓宣讲团队（lecture groups from the common people）向老百姓传递了社会正能量”、“幸福，就是做一个有正能量的人（To be happy means to be a man of positive energy.）”、“小报刊播撒大感动，正能量传播真善美（truth, good, and beauty）”、“央企创始人高管合力维护股价（joint forces to maintain stock prices），给股市注入正能量（inject positive energy into the stock market）”、“社会正能量推动北京‘721’暴雨灾后重建”、“激发自身的潜能（stimulate one’s potential），引爆（ignite）内在的正能量”、“歌声传递正能量，爱心温暖中国梦（Songs convey positive energy, and love warms China dream.）” 等等。
北京世贸（World Trade Center）天阶广场设置了一台开心制造机（merry-making machine），目的是“给大家带来快乐（bring fun to everyone），把正能量传递给更多的人。”
2012年12月13日，习近平总书记在会见美国前总统卡特时说:“新形势下，中美双方要不畏艰难，勇于创新，积累正能量，努力建设相互尊重、互利共赢的合作伙伴关系（Both China and the United States should be innovative and make efforts to accumulate “positive energy” to build a China-U.S. cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and mutual benefit.）。”
“正能量”是一种积极向上的态度（a zealous attitude to make progress）和敢于拼搏的精神（combatant spirit/the spirit of dare to struggle against tremendous odds），也是所有能给予人希望和追求，使人行动的动力和感情（motivation and passion），包括信任、豁达（sanguinity）、愉悦（cheerfulness）、进取（enterprising spirit）等。
